Former AFL Cult Hero ‘The Beast’ Undergoes Dramatic Transformation
Former fan favourite Rhys Mathieson, known as ‘the Beast’ during his time at the Brisbane Lions, has undergone a remarkable transformation since leaving the AFL.
Despite his nickname and cult hero status among fans, Mathieson struggled to secure a regular spot in the team during his tenure at the Gabba.
Following 72 games with the Lions, Mathieson found himself without a club, prompting a significant shift in his fitness regimen and image.
His rigorous gym sessions and physique updates shared on social media have garnered attention, leading to a sponsorship deal with a sports supplements company.
Former Brisbane champion Mitch Robinson was quick to support Mathieson’s new journey, praising his progress and dedication.
Many AFL enthusiasts expressed surprise at Mathieson’s transformation and questioned why he was not retained by the Lions or picked up by another club.
Mathieson recently signed with QAFL team Wilston Grange Gorillas and is set to play against Noosa at Hickey Park.
Last week, the Gorillas faced a narrow defeat against Palm Beach Currumbin in their season opener.
