Former Vice President Pence Refuses to Endorse Trump in 2024 Election Bid
Former Vice President Mike Pence made headlines on Friday as he announced during an interview with Fox host Martha MacCallum that he would not be endorsing Donald Trump for the 2024 presidential election.
Pence, who served as vice president under Donald Trump from 2017 to 2021, cited significant differences with Trump on various issues, including the events of January 6, 2021.
In the conversation, Pence also revealed that he would abstain from revealing who he plans to vote for in the upcoming election, keeping his decision private when he enters the voting booth.
Despite dropping out of the primary race early, Pence maintained that he would never vote for President Joe Biden and clarified that running as a third-party candidate was not on his agenda.
The former vice president highlighted his concerns with Trump’s agenda, particularly on issues such as the national debt, the sanctity of human life, and policies regarding China, expressing his reservations about endorsing Trump based on these differences.
Pence’s decision not to endorse Trump diverges from much of the GOP, as many former Trump opponents have pledged their support to him as he secures the party’s nomination.
Since January 6, Pence has grappled with addressing his relationship with Trump, with his recent book release reflecting some criticism of the former president’s actions during the Capitol riots.
Ronna McDaniel, the chair of the Republican National Committee, also confirmed her intention to step down, potentially allowing a top Trump loyalist, and his daughter-in-law, to take on leadership positions within the party.
The news of Pence’s stance on Trump’s candidacy and the GOP leadership changes signal a broader shift within the Republican party as the 2024 presidential election season unfolds.
