Ghana Defeats Central African Republic 5-0 in World Cup Qualifier

EL JADIDA, Morocco — Ghana trounced the Central African Republic (CAR) 5-0 in a 2026 World Cup qualifier at the Ben M’Hamed El Abdi Stadium on October 8, 2025. The Black Stars’ dominant performance positions them one step closer to qualification for the World Cup.
Goals came from defenders Mohammed Salisu and Alexander Djiku, along with Captain Jordan Ayew, Thomas Partey, and substitute Kamaldeen Sulemana. This victory secured a total of 22 points for Ghana, holding a three-point lead over second-placed Madagascar.
The match started strongly for Ghana, with Salisu opening the scoring in the 20th minute, heading in from a corner taken by Mohammed Kudus. Just four minutes later, Ghana’s pressure led to another corner but Kwasi Sibo’s header was saved spectacularly by CAR goalkeeper Dominique Youfeigane.
Though Ghana missed several chances, Partey doubled the lead in the 52nd minute. He delivered a deflected strike following impressive build-up play from Ayew. Djiku scored the third in the 69th minute, accurately heading home from another Ayew corner. Ayew then added the fourth goal in the 72nd minute, capitalizing on a defensive mistake.
Substitute Sulemana wrapped up the scoring with a close-range effort in the 87th minute. This match marked Ghana’s second 5-0 victory in World Cup qualifying history, following a similar win against Chad.
With this result, Ghana can now clinch qualification with just one point from their final group match against Comoros in Accra. When asked about the team’s performance, Ayew expressed belief in their ability to maintain their momentum.
“We need to carry this form into our final match. The fans have supported us, and we want to deliver in Accra,” Ayew said.
Ghana’s next game is scheduled for October 12, when they face Comoros.
