Gun Violence in Jacksonville Leaves Four Injured Over Weekend
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Three separate shootings in Jacksonville over the weekend left four people injured, including one with life-threatening injuries, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported.
The violence began Saturday evening at the Red Roof Inn on Harts Road. Around 5:30 p.m., a man in his early 20s was shot in the right shin near the motel’s front entrance. Police said the suspect fled the scene in a white SUV, which was later found abandoned nearby. Officers recovered about eight shell casings from the scene. The victim is currently in stable condition.
Less than 90 minutes later, officers responded to another shooting on Evergreen Avenue in the Phoenix neighborhood at about 6:48 p.m. The victim there, who had been shot in the right leg, told police he was walking when he heard a loud pop and realized he had been shot. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office noted they couldn’t find the crime scene, but the victim was taken to a local hospital, also in stable condition.
The most serious shooting occurred early Sunday at roughly 3:40 a.m. outside a bar on Edgewood Avenue South. Officers discovered a man in his 30s suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and rushed him to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. A second victim, also in his 30s, later made his way to a hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. According to police, a large crowd had gathered after the bar closed when an altercation escalated into the shooting, leaving officers without witnesses as the crowd quickly dispersed.
