MARION, Mass. — After leading his team to another victory, high school quarterback Peter Bourque celebrated with teammates, fans, and even middle schoolers who sought his autograph. Bourque, a highly-rated prep prospect from Hingham, has taken a year to adjust to Tabor Academy. He changed his graduation year from 2026 to 2027, allowing him an extra year to hone his skills.

The NEPSAC permits reclassification, but the MIAA does not. Bourque left Catholic Memorial where he faced tight regulations on eligibility. For those aiming for a professional career, an additional year can be helpful. ‘What’s the rush?’ said Joby Branion, a veteran NFL player agent representing Bourque. ‘Quarterback is a position that requires supreme confidence.’

Bourque is starting to find that confidence on the field. Ranked as one of the top quarterbacks in his class, he plans to attend Michigan despite offers from major schools like Penn State and Georgia. Since he joined Tabor, the Seawolves have posted an impressive 11-1 record.

His camaraderie with his teammates, especially his roommate Grady Holmes, a 6-foot-8 tackle, plays a crucial role in the Seawolves’ success. Bourque enjoys living in tranquil Marion, just steps from the shore, but he soon faces the intensity of college football.

Recently, Bourque experienced a taste of that intensity when he attended a Michigan game at the Big House, where he felt the thrill of being surrounded by die-hard fans. ‘It was definitely a different feel because I’m committed and I know that’s going to be my home,’ he said, recalling fans shouting his name amidst cheering crowds.

Bourque recognizes the competition ahead, especially with five-star freshman Bryce Underwood already at Michigan. He is focused, but he is not yet immersed in NIL (name, image, likeness) opportunities, focusing instead on developing his craft.

Sports runs in Bourque’s family. His great-grandfather opened Peter's Pub in Boston, a beloved local bar. Growing up in Hingham, Bourque developed a love for football, starting as a running back and linebacker before transitioning to quarterback.

At 6 feet 4 inches and 200 pounds, Bourque excels in both speed and agility, clocking a 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds. His coach praises his competitive edge, stating that Bourque performs exceptionally under pressure. ‘If you can’t perform under the bright lights, that’s what separates Pete,’ he said.

Bourque reflects fondly on his childhood, spending summer days in Hingham Harbor with friends, jumping off cliffs and swimming. He is excited to embrace the future and the challenges that await in college football.
