Great Britain’s Olivia Broome and China‘s Jinping Xiao are among the favorites in the women’s up to 50kg category, while an exciting contest is anticipated between Ukraine’s Mariana Shevchuk and Rehab Ahmed of Egypt in the women’s up to 55kg category.

On the men’s side, China’s Qi Yongkai is expected to lead the competition in the men’s up to 59kg category, with China’s Zou Yi showing strong potential in the men’s up to 65kg event on the second day of Paralympic action.

The Para Powerlifting competition at the La Chapelle Arena will see four Paralympic champions crowned, with two events scheduled for the afternoon and two in the evening on September 5.

The first event of the day will be the women’s up to 50kg final, where reigning world champion Olivia Broome is poised to perform well. However, new challengers emerging from recent World Cups will add unpredictability to the competition.

In the men’s up to 59kg final, defending Paralympic and world champion Qi Yongkai will be the athlete to beat. Other strong contenders include Al Salvador‘s Herbert Aceituno and Iran‘s Mohsen Bakhtiar, who have both had impressive performances this season.

One of the main highlights will be the women’s up to 55kg category, featuring a significant matchup between the reigning Paralympic champion Mariana Shevchuk and the current world champion, Rehab Ahmed of Egypt. Ahmed holds the world record in this category.

Finally, the men’s up to 65kg final will close the day’s events, with China’s Zou Yi looking to defend his title as the reigning world champion and world record holder. Additionally, Iran’s Amir Jafari Arangeh aims to turn his Tokyo 2020 silver medal into gold.
