Charlotte Hornets Training Camp Mcalister Field House

Charleston, South Carolina — The Charlotte Hornets have begun their training camp at The Citadel‘s McAlister Field House as they prepare for the 2025-26 NBA season. The team is in Charleston through the weekend, culminating in a preseason game against the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder on October 5.

This is the fourth consecutive year that an NBA team has held its training camp in Charleston. The Hornets have previously played exhibition games in the area, making it a prime location for professional sports training camps.

Coach Charles Lee emphasized the importance of team bonding during this time away from home. He explained, “When we’re at home, we go back to our families. But here, we bunker down with each other, which helps with camaraderie.”

Brandon Miller, the Hornets’ No. 2 overall pick in 2023, echoed Lee’s sentiments. He said, “It’s great to get away and bond as a team. Experiencing a new atmosphere in another city is beneficial for us.”

The Hornets are particularly excited about their stay in Charleston, which is known for its vibrant food scene and welcoming atmosphere. Lee explained that training in the city gives players a chance to engage with their fan base throughout the Carolinas. “The food scene is amazing here. The Citadel has opened their doors to us, and we appreciate their support,” he said.

Charleston has become a favored destination for several professional sports teams. The Knicks practiced in the area during the 1990s, and the St. Louis Blues and the Buffalo Sabres have also held training camps there.

The Hornets are scheduled to kick off their season on October 22 against the Brooklyn Nets in Charlotte. Meanwhile, fans eagerly anticipate the team’s upcoming game against the Thunder as the preseason heats up.
