Houston Severe Weather Storm Flooding April 2023

HOUSTON, Texas – Heavy rain moved across the Houston area Monday morning, with severe weather warnings in effect for several counties. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning remained in place for Harris, Liberty, and Chambers counties until 9:30 a.m.

The National Weather Service (NWS) warned of potential wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-sized hail. Locations such as Anahuac, Wallisville, Hankamer, Mont Belvieu, and Baytown were among areas expected to see the greatest impacts.

Additionally, a Flash Flood Warning was issued for Harris, Brazoria, Fort Bend, and Galveston counties until 11:15 a.m. The NWS reported that between two and five inches of rain had already fallen, raising concerns for flash flooding in Pasadena, Pearland, League City, and several other communities.

As meteorological conditions improve this afternoon, lingering rain could still affect Galveston and Brazoria counties. Drivers are advised to remain cautious of temporary street flooding, especially in low-lying areas and the far right lanes of roads.

Forecasters indicated that conditions could remain unstable with high humidity and low-pressure areas expected to trigger more showers and storms through the week. Wednesday is forecasted to have the highest chance of severe storms, with possible heavy rain making travel slow.

Looking ahead, the weekend is anticipated to bring warmer temperatures, with highs in the upper 80s. A storm system approaching from central Texas is predicted to weaken but still might cause scattered showers.

Meteorologist John Dawson of FOX 26 highlighted that plans for the Easter weekend could be affected by the weather, as harsh storms and heavy rain will be a concern across Texas.
