Isaiah Hodgins Signs with 49ers After Giants Stint
Isaiah Hodgins, the wide receiver who briefly shined with the New York Giants during the 2022 season, has signed a Reserve/Future contract with the San Francisco 49ers, the team announced Tuesday. Hodgins, 26, joins the 49ers after a diminished role with the Giants over the past two seasons.
Hodgins was claimed by the Giants midway through the 2022 season, where he quickly made an impact, catching 33 passes for 351 yards and four touchdowns in just eight games. His performance helped propel the Giants to the playoffs, where he delivered a standout game in the Wild Card round against the Minnesota Vikings, recording eight receptions for 105 yards and a touchdown.
However, his role with the Giants dwindled in subsequent seasons. In 2023, Hodgins caught only 21 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns across 17 games. By 2024, he was relegated to the practice squad, appearing in just three games and making two receptions for 12 yards.
Originally drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Hodgins has appeared in 31 games over his four-year career, tallying 60 receptions for 634 yards and seven touchdowns. A native of Oakley, California, Hodgins played college football at Oregon State, where he earned All-Pac 12 First Team honors in 2019.
The 49ers also signed offensive lineman Isaac Alarcon, wide receiver Russell Gage, and tackle Jalen McKenzie to Reserve/Future contracts. Hodgins will look to revive his career in San Francisco, where he hopes to secure a more prominent role in the team’s offense.
