Ivanka Trump Usha Vance Oscar De La Renta Gowns

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Ivanka Trump and Usha Vance, wife of Vice President-elect JD Vance, faced backlash for wearing custom Oscar de la Renta gowns during pre-inauguration festivities for Donald Trump‘s presidency. The events, held at the National Building Museum on Sunday night, drew criticism from social media users who accused the fashion brand of endorsing “fascism.”

Ivanka Trump, the eldest daughter of the 47th U.S. president, donned an off-the-shoulder gown adorned with pearl and crystal flowers, paired with a silver stole. Usha Vance wore a black velvet dress with a sweetheart neckline and asymmetric floral motifs. Both outfits were designed by Oscar de la Renta, a brand with a history of dressing First Ladies, including Jackie Kennedy and Nancy Reagan.

Social media platform X erupted with criticism following the event. One user wrote, “Fascism – but make it Fashion,” while another commented, “The big brands once again support the evil in the name of higher profits, just like it happened during the rise of Nazis.” Calls to boycott the luxury fashion house flooded the platform, with one user stating, “Bye Oscar de la Renta. I know you won’t be cancelled but you are to me, for having no f***ing morals.”

The backlash extended to Oscar de la Renta’s Instagram page, where users criticized the brand for creating gowns for Trump and Vance. The late Dominican designer Oscar de la Renta, who founded the brand, was known for his work with prominent political figures, but the recent controversy has reignited debates about the intersection of fashion and politics.

Ivanka Trump was seen mingling with high-profile guests, including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his fiancée Lauren Sanchez, at the candlelight dinner hosted by her father. The event marked the beginning of a series of celebrations leading up to Trump’s inauguration.

Despite the criticism, the fashion house has not issued a public statement regarding the backlash. The controversy highlights the challenges luxury brands face when navigating political affiliations in a polarized climate.
