Jack Black Stars as Satan in Upcoming Christmas Comedy ‘Dear Santa’ on Paramount+
The upcoming Christmas comedy film ‘Dear Santa‘ is set to bring a unique twist to the holiday season, with Jack Black starring as Satan Claus. Directed by Bobby Farrelly and produced by the Farrelly Brothers, the film tells the story of a young boy named Liam, played by Robert Timothy Smith, who accidentally sends his Christmas wish list to Satan instead of Santa due to a spelling error.
The movie follows Liam’s journey as he unwittingly summons Satan, who offers him three wishes in exchange for his soul. Despite the ominous deal, the film promises a family-friendly and comedic take on the holiday season, rather than a horror theme. The trailer showcases various antics involving Liam and Satan, including disrupting a Post Malone performance and casting humorous spells.
The cast includes Keegan-Michael Key, Brianne Howey, Hayes MacArthur, P.J. Byrne, and Post Malone, among others. Principal photography began in March 2023 in Atlanta and Decatur, Georgia, but was halted in July due to the 2023 actors’ strike. The film is now scheduled to be released on Paramount+ on November 25, 2024.
Bobby Farrelly emphasized the comedic intent of the film, stating that they aimed to make it fun for the audience without veering into horror. This project, originally titled ‘Dear Satan,’ was purchased by the Farrelly Brothers in 2012 and has finally come to fruition over a decade later.
