Jeff Bezos Ai Startup Project Prometheus

NEW YORK, NY (Reuters) – Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, will take on a new role as co-chief executive officer of an artificial intelligence startup called Project Prometheus. This news was reported by The New York Times on November 17, 2025.

Project Prometheus aims to develop AI technologies for engineering and manufacturing in various industries, including computers, automobiles, and spacecraft. The startup has already secured $6.2 billion in funding, a substantial amount that positions it as one of the best-financed early-stage companies globally.

This will be Bezos’s first significant operational position since he resigned as CEO of Amazon in July 2021. Although he remains involved with Blue Origin, his official role there is the founder, not an operational leader.

Bezos’s entry into the competitive AI market comes as companies like OpenAI, Meta, and Google dominate the scene. Several smaller firms are also pushing for breakthroughs in new AI products, leading to a vibrant and crowded marketplace.

Vik Bajaj, a physicist and chemist with a background at Google’s innovation lab, will serve alongside Bezos as co-chief executive. Bajaj worked closely with Google co-founder Sergey Brin during his time at Google’s X, often referred to as “The Moonshot Factory.”

According to the report, Project Prometheus has already expanded its team to nearly 100 employees, attracting talent from leading AI organizations such as OpenAI, DeepMind, and Meta. This diverse expertise is expected to contribute significantly to the development of innovative AI solutions.

Neither Bezos nor a representative responded to a request for comment from Reuters.
