In San Diego, the Edman family is rallying behind their son, Tommy Edman, who currently plays for the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Division Series (NLDS). John Edman, a longtime baseball coach at La Jolla Country Day School, expressed pride in his son’s accomplishments on the field. “It’s just a huge blessing; there’s no other way to put it,” said John Edman about watching his son play at such a professional level.

Tommy Edman’s journey began at a young age, progressing through Little League and high school baseball at La Jolla Country Day School, and later at Stanford University. Now a versatile utility player in Major League Baseball, Tommy Edman has demonstrated his adaptability and team-focused mindset. “People have asked him fairly frequently, like, what position do you prefer? And his answer is always, I’ll play wherever I’m asked to play if it’s going to help the team win,” John Edman commented on his son’s flexibility.

Reflecting on Tommy’s development, John Edman described him as a smart player who was always focused on the team’s success. “He was humble, had some talent, and just did a lot of things well on the ball field,” he said. The entire Edman family has been dedicated to baseball, and John Edman expressed his pride in Tommy’s achievements, seeing him as a positive influence on others.

Tommy Edman’s impact extends beyond the professional field, leaving a legacy at La Jolla Country Day School where he is now in the school’s Hall of Fame. “Even the little kids know about him, and they’ll be out here at P.E., see me and look over and yell his name — and it’s kind of neat,” John Edman remarked, highlighting the inspiration Tommy provides to younger students.

The Dodgers are set to face the San Diego Padres for Game 1 of the NLDS on Saturday at 5:38 p.m. As the local community and the Edman family watch, Tommy Edman’s play could be crucial in the Dodgers’ pursuit of postseason success.
