Kennedy Claims Trump Lost 30 Pounds Despite Junk Food Diet

ORLANDO, Fla. — U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. claimed during a Fox News interview that President Donald Trump has lost 30 pounds, despite his well-documented penchant for junk food. The statement came during an interview with host Sean Hannity on Tuesday at a Steak ’n Shake location.
Kennedy, who was speaking about recent changes in Trump’s diet, observed, “I saw him yesterday and I think he’s lost 30 pounds.” Hannity agreed, noting, “He looks great,” adding that Trump often forgoes the bun when ordering a burger.
The discussion on Trump’s eating habits led to jokes about his well-known favorites, including KFC, McDonald’s, and pizza. Kennedy acknowledged Trump’s “genetic system” that allows him to maintain his health despite his diet, though he did refer to some of Trump’s food choices as “crap.”
Previously, Trump weighed in at 215 pounds when he had his mugshot taken at the Fulton County Jail in August 2023. In a January 2024 interview, Trump claimed to have lost 20 pounds due to his busy schedule, asserting, “I haven’t been able to eat very much.”
The interview comes as Kennedy promotes his “Make America Healthy Again” campaign, addressing what he sees as a public health crisis. He argued that government-sanctioned programs should not subsidize unhealthy food purchases, particularly through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
“I’m not going to take [sugary drinks] away from people, but we shouldn’t be subsidizing them,” Kennedy stated during the interview, emphasizing the need for a public health overhaul. He cited that 10% of food stamps are used in low-income neighborhoods, potentially contributing to poor dietary choices.
Throughout his tenure, Kennedy has focused on eradicating what he calls corruption within health agencies while advocating for a transparent public health system. His comments during the interview received mixed reactions, with critics expressing skepticism about the efficacy of his proposed dietary restrictions.
Trump has often been criticized for his fast-food preferences, including reports of consuming an estimated 12 cans of Diet Coke daily, and famously serving McDonald’s to the Clemson Tigers during a White House visit. Despite the health concerns regarding his diet, both Hannity and Kennedy expressed confidence in Trump’s genetic predisposition to good health.
The topic of President Trump’s diet and weight continues to resonate as he campaigns for the presidency ahead of the 2024 election.
