Komal Nahta Praises Aamir Khan and Salman Khan’s Maturity in Handling Criticism
Renowned film trade analyst Komal Nahta recently shared his experiences and observations on mature behavior in the film industry, highlighting the professionalism of Bollywood’s leading actors Aamir Khan and Salman Khan. In a candid discussion with actor Vishal Malhotra, Nahta relayed instances where his critical reviews did not affect these stars’ attitudes towards him.
Komal Nahta, a respected voice in the trade, recounted how he had seen “Laal Singh Chaddha” well before its release in August 2022. Knowing the film was a remake of “Forrest Gump,” Nahta predicted its lackluster reception and bluntly conveyed his opinion to Aamir Khan, suggesting the film would be a “disaster.” Despite the harsh criticism and the eventual box office failure of the film, Nahta emphasized that Khan never exerted pressure to alter his views or distanced himself from the critic. According to Nahta, this reaction exemplifies true maturity.
Similarly, Nahta discussed Salman Khan’s stance on film criticism. “I have written both positive and negative reviews of Salman’s films,” Nahta stated. “His relationship with me remains unchanged regardless of my opinions.” Highlighting his professional integrity, Nahta remarked that his primary responsibility is towards his readers and viewers, ensuring honesty without being swayed by personal relationships with industry figures.
Nahta also reflected on his interactions with producer Firoz Nadiadwala about the film “Hera Pheri.” At the time of its release, Nahta predicted the film would fare poorly at the box office despite its quality, owing to the comedy genre’s underperformance in the early 1990s. He recounted an exchange wherein Nadiadwala was initially frustrated with Nahta’s prediction, which ultimately proved true as “Hera Pheri” later achieved cult status despite its initial commercial failure.
Throughout his career, Komal Nahta has adhered to a philosophy of honest reporting, placing the audience’s trust above personal alliances. His experiences with Aamir Khan and Salman Khan illustrate how some industry stalwarts prioritize professionalism over ego, a sentiment that Nahta feels is rare yet commendable in the competitive world of Indian cinema.
