Kylie Minogue Breaks Record for Longest Time Between Hottest 100 Appearances
Australian pop icon Kylie Minogue has achieved a remarkable feat in the music world, breaking the record for the longest time between appearances in the annual Hottest 100 countdown. Her infectious 2023 hit ‘Padam Padam’ secured the 48th spot in the prestigious countdown, meaning it has been an astonishing 27 years since Kylie last featured on the list.
During the mid-90s, Kylie was a regular in the Hottest 100, with her popular songs ‘Confide In Me‘ reaching #30 in 1994 and her duet with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, ‘Where the Wild Roses Grow’, cracking the top 10 in 1995, landing at #8. However, her last appearance on the countdown was in 1997 with ‘Did It Again‘, which reached #81.
Kylie’s achievement is even more impressive considering the previous record was held by heavy metal band Slipknot, who reappeared on the countdown in 2019 with ‘Unsainted’ at #86, 19 years after their initial appearance in 2000 with ‘Wait And Bleed‘ at #75.
Kylie Minogue has not only broken this long-standing record but shattered it completely. Her feat of nearly a decade between Hottest 100 appearances surpasses any expectations.
Although Kylie had not featured in the Hottest 100 for almost three decades, she remains beloved by many in the triple j community. Her songs have been covered numerous times in heartwarming Like A Version performances, including renditions by Peking Duk and PANIA. Additionally, Tame Impala‘s 2015 rendition of her chart-topping track ‘Confide in Me’ further solidified her place in Hottest 100 history.
Looking ahead, it is unlikely that any other artist, such as Dennis Leary, Morrissey, King Missile, Mazzy Star, Chumbawumba, or Crash Test Dummies, will surpass Kylie’s incredible achievement by breaking this new record. It is safe to say that Kylie Minogue has earned the title of having the longest time between Hottest 100 Appearances.
