Lauri Markkanen Basketball Game Over Suns

SALT LAKE CITY — Lauri Markkanen scored a career-high 51 points to lead the Utah Jazz to a 138-134 overtime victory against the Phoenix Suns on October 27, 2025. Markkanen’s performance marked a significant milestone as he became the first Jazz player to score over 50 points in a regular season game since Karl Malone achieved the feat in 1998.

The game was a back-and-forth battle, with Markkanen playing 45 minutes and facing intense defensive pressure from the Suns. Despite this, he remained undaunted, saying, ‘As long as you’re mentally not tired, and kind of force yourself out of that mindset that you’re tired, you can push through whatever you need to.’

Markkanen connected on six 3-pointers and made all 17 of his free throw attempts, tying the record for the most consecutive free throws made in Jazz history. He also added 14 rebounds to his impressive stat line.

Keyonte George, who contributed 26 points and 10 assists, noted the importance of getting the ball to Markkanen. ‘Just wanted to get it to Lauri in space. We are empowering him more,’ George said.

Utah head coach Will Hardy praised Markkanen’s efforts, stating, ‘He showed a tremendous amount of heart. He was really physical tonight and made a lot of big baskets.’

Markkanen expressed satisfaction with his performance but reflected on a missed baseline jumper that could have added to his total. This thrilling game not only secured a victory for the Jazz but also excited fans as the team looks ahead to the rest of the season.
