Lifelong Coventry City Fan and Architect Geoff Mann Passes Away at 85

A beloved figure in the Coventry City community, Geoff Mann, an esteemed architect and lifelong fan of the club, has died at the age of 85. Mann’s passion for the team extended beyond the stands, as he served on the club’s board and even wore his iconic sky blue suit for special events, including the historic FA Cup win in 1987 at Wembley.

As an architect at RHWL Architects, Mann was involved in the early designs for a new stadium, as Coventry City sought relocation from their former home at Highfield Road. His expertise and dedication led to his appointment as the architect for the ambitious Arena 2000 project in the late 1990s, which aimed to provide the club with a modern 40,000-seater venue at the site of the Foleshill gasworks. The plan included a retractable roof and pitch to accommodate various events.

However, the downsizing of the project became necessary when Coventry City faced relegation from the Premiership in 2001. Despite this setback, Mann’s contributions to the club remained invaluable.
