Little Britain Duo Consider Live Show Return Amidst Comedy Debates
In recent discussions, David Walliams and Matt Lucas, well-known for their work on the ‘Little Britain‘ sketch show, have expressed interest in reviving the show for a live tour. The comedic duo, who initially brought the show to audiences from 2003 to 2006 on BBC Three, are keen on revisiting live performances. “I’m sure at some point we’re going to revisit the show. I’m sure we’ll tour live again,” Walliams, 53, shared with The Daily Star newspaper. Walliams humorously noted a potential change in the show’s characters given that Lucas, now 49, has lost a significant amount of weight, quipping that “all the characters are going to look a lot thinner!”
Despite enthusiasm for a live rendition, Walliams conveyed uncertainty about the sketch show’s return to television screens. He explained, “When you talk to people in TV, they’re like ‘Well we’re not looking for that at the moment.'” Previously, the series faced criticism over allegations of racial stereotypes, which resurfaced in 2020. Addressing past controversies, Walliams has been vocal about his belief in uncensored comedy, advocating that no topic should be off-limits in comedic expression.
Walliams remarked to the Australian newspaper The Age, “You end up with a list of things you can laugh at and things you can’t, but who’s in charge of that list?” He further cited notable comedians such as Ricky Gervais, Dave Chappelle, and Chris Rock as examples of those who successfully navigate taboo subjects in their routines. This approach, he argues, can lead to more exciting comedic experiences.
In a related matter, Walliams and Lucas also extended apologies for certain portrayals in their mockumentary series ‘Come Fly With Me,’ which aired on the BBC. The pair acknowledged past criticisms and expressed regrets for some of the characters they enacted in that series.
