LSU women’s basketball head coach Kim Mulkey made a passionate statement during a media availability ahead of the team’s NCAA game against Middle Tennessee State University.

Mulkey revealed her concerns about an upcoming article in the Washington Post, describing it as a ‘hit piece.’ She asserted her readiness to take legal action, stating, ‘I’ve hired the best defamation law firm in the country and I’ll sue the Washington Post if they publish a false story about me.’

News of the impending article came to light after a tweet by Pat Forde of Sports Illustrated hinted at a significant piece on Kim Mulkey, generating a stir among national journalists.

Jeff Pearlman, a seasoned sportswriter, criticized the situation, pointing out potential breaches in journalistic conduct and professionalism.

Earlier this month, the Associated Press also scrutinized Mulkey in a column, adding to the growing tension surrounding the upcoming article.

Kim Mulkey, a native of Tickfaw and valedictorian of Hammond High School, boasts an impressive basketball career, including an NCAA national championship as a player at Louisiana Tech and an Olympic gold medal with Team USA in 1984.

As a head coach, Mulkey has secured four NCAA Women’s Basketball National Championships, with three victories at Baylor University and a recent title win at LSU, the first for the school in basketball.

LSU is set to face Middle Tennessee State University on Sunday at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in the second round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
