San Jose, Costa Rica — A 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck near San Jose on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at 9:57 PM local time, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). The quake hit at a depth of 31 kilometers (approximately 19 miles), causing significant concern among residents.

The tremor was felt widely in the surrounding areas, particularly in Quepos, which is located just 5 kilometers from the epicenter. Residents reported light to moderate shaking. The population of Quepos is around 7,800 people.

San Isidro, San Rafael Abajo, and several other towns experienced light shaking as well. Reports indicate that San Isidro is about 51 kilometers from the epicenter, while San Rafael Abajo lies 52 kilometers away. Other towns like Curridabat, San Francisco, and Puerto Limón, located further away, also felt the quake.
