Manchester United Held to Draw by Resilient Crystal Palace
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag expressed his frustration following a goalless draw against Crystal Palace in the Premier League, held at Selhurst Park. Despite United’s significant possession dominance and numerous opportunities, the team was unable to break the deadlock and had to settle for a single point.
During the match, Manchester United managed a total of 15 shots, with six being on target, but struggled to get past Crystal Palace’s goalkeeper, Dean Henderson. United enjoyed 67% possession but were ultimately disappointed as they left South London with a draw.
“The performance is good, but we are not happy with the score,” Ten Hag remarked. “In the first half, we had control and pressured them intensely, but we failed to score a goal.” The manager emphasized the need for clinical finishing, highlighting a missed opportunity to secure a lead before half-time when Palace had a significant chance.
United’s promising first half saw them twice hitting the crossbar, but the home side improved after the interval. Manager Oliver Glasner of Crystal Palace credited his team’s resilience and tactical adjustments during the second half. “I just said to them at half-time to go out and show their character and personality,” Glasner stated. Palace emerged brighter in the second half, defending stoutly and creating some threat on the counterattack.
Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze missed two opportunities to score, once aiming directly at United’s goalkeeper, Andre Onana, and another shot going wide. Onana was praised for his defensive saves, particularly his crucial double save at close range in the second half.
Ten Hag acknowledged the challenges, “It’s always a tough game here; we played well but couldn’t finish. There is always one chance for the opposition.” The draw leaves Manchester United preparing for their upcoming fixtures in the Europa League against Twente and a Premier League encounter with Tottenham.
