BOSTON, Massachusetts — The Boston Bruins have announced Marco Sturm as their new head coach on June 5, 2025. Sturm, 46, joins the team after leading the AHL’s Ontario Reign for the past three seasons.

General Manager Don Sweeney expressed pride in naming Sturm as the franchise’s 30th head coach. “We’re embracing a new direction with Marco behind the bench,” Sweeney said. He praised Sturm’s ability to maintain a strong defensive foundation while evolving the team’s offensive strategies.

Sturm outlined his excitement in taking on this new role, stating, “Boston has always held a special place in my heart.” He emphasized his passion for the game and commitment to helping the Bruins succeed.

During his time with the Reign, Sturm guided the team to a record of 119-80-11-6, making the playoffs all three seasons. Before that, he served as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Kings, earning a Stanley Cup playoff berth in 2022.

Sturm’s impressive coaching background includes leading the German National Team from 2015 to 2018. He achieved a silver medal in the 2018 Olympics and won a Deutschland Cup title in 2015.

A former NHL player, Sturm skated in 938 games from 1997 to 2012. His highlights include scoring the game-winning goal in the 2010 Winter Classic and contributing significantly during his five seasons with the Bruins.

As the first German head coach in NHL history, Sturm is ready to bring his competitive spirit and extensive experience to Boston.”
