Martin Lawrence Eddie Murphy Wedding Toasts

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Actor Martin Lawrence revealed in a recent interview that he plans to let comedian Eddie Murphy take the lead on wedding toasts during their children’s upcoming nuptials. Lawrence, 59, and Murphy, 63, are set to become in-laws after Lawrence’s daughter, Jasmin, 28, got engaged to Murphy’s son, Eric, 35, in November.

During an appearance on Sherri Shepherd‘s talk show, Lawrence joked about his decision to let Murphy handle the toasts. “I’m gonna let Eddie do the toasts. He’s funnier,” Lawrence said. When Shepherd asked if he would let Murphy “get all the laughs,” Lawrence responded, “I don’t know. I might say something.”

The Bad Boys star also shared that he and Murphy have already discussed wedding expenses. “[Eddie] said, ‘I paid for the last six weddings,'” Lawrence recalled. “You know, ’cause Eddie got a lot of children. So, he said, [you’re] paying for this one. I don’t have a problem with it.”

Lawrence emphasized that the wedding budget will focus on his daughter’s wishes, including the menu. “Whatever my daughter’s menu is,” he said, adding that he might get emotional during the ceremony. “I might be crying,” Lawrence joked, mimicking exaggerated sobs.

The engagement between Jasmin and Eric took place on Nov. 27 in a romantic setting filled with candles and roses. A video of the proposal showed Eric getting down on one knee as Jasmin exclaimed, “It’s beautiful. Oh my gosh,” before saying “yes.”

Lawrence spoke highly of his future son-in-law, describing Eric as “chill and cool” and comparing him to his famous father. “He’s a lot like his father,” Lawrence said. “[He’s] real calm, cool, collected and just a cool young man.”

Murphy, who has 10 children, shares Eric with a former partner. Lawrence, who has three daughters, shares Jasmin with his first wife, Patricia Southall, a former Miss Virginia USA. The two actors, both comedy legends, have known each other for decades, adding another layer to their families’ union.
