Maryland Governor Wes Moore Endorses Kamala Harris’ ‘Opportunity Agenda for Black Men’
Maryland Governor Wes Moore has recently expressed strong support for Vice President Kamala Harris‘ ‘Opportunity Agenda for Black Men,’ highlighting its potential to address systemic barriers and promote equitable economic and social advancement for Black men in the United States.
In an opinion piece, Governor Moore shared personal anecdotes that underscore the challenges faced by Black men in America. He recounted his own experiences, including the tragic loss of his father due to a healthcare system that often neglects Black men, and being handcuffed by police at the age of eleven, an event that was not unusual in his overpoliced community.
Moore emphasized that Harris’ plan is significant because it includes initiatives such as legalizing cannabis and ensuring that Black entrepreneurs benefit from this industry. He noted that cannabis laws have historically been used against Black communities, and now there is an opportunity to turn this pain into prosperity. Moore also highlighted his own efforts in Maryland, such as signing the ‘Access to Banking Act’ and collaborating with the White House on the AHEAD Model to advance health equity.
The governor praised Harris’ agenda for its potential to close the racial wealth gap and build a more just future. He believes that her plan signals that Black men are not just welcome but essential in the American political landscape. Moore’s endorsement comes as he continues to engage with his community, including a recent visit to Morgan State University to discuss the importance of voting in the upcoming Presidential Election.
Moore’s active support for Harris and other Democratic candidates was also evident in his recent social media posts, where he expressed enthusiasm for the energy in Maryland supporting these candidates.
