Huntingdon Train Stabbing News

Huntingdon, England – A 32-year-old man has been charged with 10 counts of attempted murder following a stabbing attack on a train in Cambridgeshire on Saturday night that left 11 people injured.

Anthony Williams, from Peterborough, was arrested when the train made an emergency stop at Huntingdon after reports of multiple stabbings on board. The British Transport Police confirmed that he has also been charged with one count of actual bodily harm and possession of a bladed article.

Among the injured is a train worker who attempted to subdue the attacker and is currently in critical but stable condition, as noted by Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander. Five of the injured have since been discharged from the hospital.

During the incident, passengers reported chaotic scenes as those onboard attempted to flee the danger. Eyewitnesses described seeing individuals covered in blood as they exited the train.

Thomas McLachlan, a passenger, recounted the moment chaos erupted. “I heard the words: ‘He’s been stabbed.’ The train was filled with terrified people,” he said. Another witness, Matt Kingston, mentioned how train staff hurried to shut the buffet carriage shutters to protect those inside.

Police emphasize that they are not treating the attack as terrorism-related, although an increased presence of armed officers at railway stations across the country is underway to reassure the public.

The incident on the London-bound train triggered significant emergency response and raised questions about rail security. Former British Transport Police Chief Andy Trotter expressed hope that enhanced security measures would be discussed in light of the attack.

Williams is expected to appear at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court later today following the day’s shocking events.
