Mega Man 11 Surpasses 2 Million Sales, Becomes Best-Selling in Series History
TOKYO, Japan — Capcom announced that Mega Man 11, the latest installment in the iconic Blue Bomber franchise, has surpassed 2 million units sold, making it the best-selling game in the series’ 36-year history. The milestone was achieved nearly six years after its initial release in 2018.
The game, which debuted on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, has now outsold previous entries, including Mega Man 2 (1.51 million units) and the Mega Man Legacy Collection (1.60 million units). Capcom shared the updated sales figures in a recent update, highlighting the enduring popularity of the franchise.
Upon its release, Mega Man 11 received critical acclaim, with Nintendo Life awarding it a 9/10, calling it a “modern classic” and a “fitting refresh for a beloved series.” The game modernized the classic 2D platforming formula with updated graphics and new gameplay mechanics while staying true to its roots.
Capcom has remained tight-lipped about the future of the franchise, though the company has hinted at ongoing development efforts. In a 2023 earnings call, Capcom stated, “Mega Man is one of Capcom’s historic IPs and is loved by fans. We are considering how to approach the production of new entries in the series, which requires numerous factors, including the development of a solid concept, ideas, and gameplay.”
Fans have expressed mixed reactions to the lack of new titles. While some appreciate Capcom’s cautious approach to ensure quality, others are eager for a fresh installment. “I love Mega Man, but it’s time for something new,” one fan commented. “A Mega Man 12 or even a new Mega Man X game would be amazing.”
Despite the sales success, Mega Man 11 remains a niche title compared to Capcom’s other franchises, such as Resident Evil and Monster Hunter. The game currently ranks as Capcom’s 65th best-selling title, just behind Capcom Arcade Second Stadium and ahead of Super Street Fighter II.
Capcom has kept the Blue Bomber relevant through cameo appearances in other games, such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and various crossover titles. However, fans are clamoring for a full-fledged new adventure. “Mega Man deserves more than just cameos,” said another fan. “It’s time for Capcom to give the series the attention it deserves.”
With the gaming industry evolving and new consoles on the horizon, the question remains: Will 2025 bring the announcement of Mega Man 12, or will fans have to wait longer for the next chapter in the Blue Bomber’s legacy?
