New York Mets Vs Atlanta Braves Baseball Game

The New York Mets are set to play three highly important games against the Atlanta Braves, marking a pivotal moment in their season. With the Mets sitting just two games ahead of Atlanta in the wildcard standings, the outcome of this series could decide which team progresses to postseason play come October.

After successfully taking three of four games from the Philadelphia Phillies and hindering their ability to clinch the National League East at Citi Field, the Mets head to Atlanta with significant momentum. However, these games will be played without shortstop Francisco Lindor, whose absence adds pressure on the team.

Amidst the tension surrounding the games, the looming threat of Hurricane Helene has added a layer of uncertainty. Initially designated as a tropical storm, it is expected to strengthen into a hurricane with anticipated landfall in Florida on Thursday. Projections from the National Hurricane Center suggest Helene could reach Category 2 strength, boasting winds as high as 110 miles per hour, potentially affecting the series later in the week.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has declared a state of emergency in anticipation of the storm’s impact. Major League Baseball (MLB) has yet to announce any changes to the series schedule between the Braves and the Mets. The league, in coordination with weather experts, is monitoring the situation to ensure player safety.

Among the potential solutions being considered are rescheduling Thursday’s game to an earlier slot, potentially at 1 p.m. ET, or hosting a doubleheader on Wednesday. These measures would aim to complete the series before Helene’s arrival.

If necessary, games could also be relocated to neutral venues, a strategy utilized in past seasons during similar circumstances. Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas is speculated as a potential alternative, though officially unconfirmed.

An additional option includes postponing Thursday’s game until Monday, only if the outcomes of the weekend’s games dictate its necessity in determining playoff positions.

The Mets currently hold the second wildcard spot by a half-game, trailing the San Diego Padres. Securing two victories in Atlanta would solidify their postseason status, whereas any combination of four wins in the remaining six games would also suffice.

The games, scheduled to be played at Truist Park, will be broadcast on SNY. Viewers with traditional cable access can catch all the action from home, with streaming options available via subscription services that include regional sports networks.
