Nascar Drivers Teams Silly Season 2026

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — NASCAR‘s Silly Season is underway, but it’s remarkably quiet. As of now, speculation about driver moves for 2026 doesn’t seem to be generating much excitement. An executive from the industry described the atmosphere as ‘very, very quiet’ and another source referred to it as ‘crickets.’

Four major teams — Hendrick Motorsports, Team Penske, Joe Gibbs Racing, and 23XI Racing — appear to have their driver lineups secured for 2026. Factors such as existing contracts and performance are limiting changes across many teams.

However, Trackhouse Racing could shake things up. The team owns four contracts but has only three Cup Series spots available. Ross Chastain is locked in, but Daniel Suárez, Shane van Gisbergen, and rookie Connor Zilisch are competing for the remaining slots. Suárez’s contract ends after this season, making him a potential free agent.

Suárez, 30th in points, has sponsorship backing and experience on ovals, whereas van Gisbergen is struggling in his first full Cup season. ‘We just want him to get that experience,’ Trackhouse owner Justin Marks said, emphasizing Zilisch’s learning curve.

As Trackhouse weighs options, no decision for 2026 is set, but upcoming races on road courses could give van Gisbergen a chance to secure a win, strengthening his position.

Denny Hamlin, a longtime driver for Joe Gibbs Racing, is also in a contract year but likely to re-sign soon. ‘Working on it,’ he stated about negotiations.

Meanwhile, AJ Allmendinger‘s future with Kaulig Racing remains uncertain, though team president Chris Rice confirmed he would continue as the driver of Kaulig’s No. 16 Cup car. Allmendinger’s performance has been vital for the team, as he currently ranks 18th in the standings.

Corey Heim, a promising reserve driver for 23XI Racing, holds 15 wins in the Truck Series but will likely wait until 2027 for a full-time Cup seat. ‘He’s doing everything he’s been asked to,’ Hamlin said, ensuring Heim’s future is with the team.

As the Silly Season continues, additional names to follow include Aric Almirola, Corey LaJoie, Jesse Love, Sam Mayer, and Chandler Smith.
