Shane van Gisbergen Wins Second Consecutive Xfinity Series Race, Secures Maiden Pole at Sonoma Raceway

Shane van Gisbergen showcased his prowess on the road tracks once again by securing his second consecutive victory in the Xfinity Series at Sonoma Raceway. The New Zealander continues to make a name for himself as one of the best road racers in NASCAR, following his recent win at Portland and a debut victory in Chicago.

Racing under Kaulig Racing, van Gisbergen’s stellar performance also marked his first career pole position in NASCAR competition, solidifying his transition from Australian V8 Supercars to the American racing scene.

Van Gisbergen led a total of 33 laps out of 79, showcasing his dominance throughout the race. His aggressive driving style and strategic maneuvers around the Sonoma circuit further cemented his reputation as a force to be reckoned with on road courses.

During a decisive restart with 11 laps remaining, van Gisbergen found himself in a thrilling battle for the lead alongside Austin Hill. Displaying his sharp skills, van Gisbergen executed an impressive pass on Hill to take control of the race and secure the victory.

Sheldon Creed of Joe Gibbs Racing finished in a commendable second place, with Sam Mayer, Austin Green, and Austin Hill rounding out the top five, all driving Chevrolets. Cole Custer from the Haas Racing Ford team secured the ninth spot as the top Ford driver in the competition.

In a standout moment post-race, van Gisbergen autographed a rugby ball, paying homage to his roots, before delighting the crowd with a crowd-pleasing burnout. His remarkable performance at Sonoma Raceway not only adds another win to his record but also emphasizes his growing influence in NASCAR.
