New Zealand vs England Test Series: McCullum’s ‘Bazball’ Faces Kiwi Challenge
The highly anticipated Test series between New Zealand and England is set to kick off on November 28, 2024, in Christchurch, with England looking to redeem themselves after a series loss in Pakistan. England’s head coach, Brendon McCullum, is optimistic that the New Zealand wickets will be more favorable to England’s aggressive brand of cricket, known as ‘Bazball’, which struggled on the turning tracks in Pakistan.
New Zealand, fresh from a historic 3-0 Test series sweep in India, is riding high on confidence. Despite missing their talisman Kane Williamson due to injury in the Indian series, Williamson is set to return for the England series, bolstering the Kiwi lineup. New Zealand also welcomes all-rounder Nathan Smith, who will make his Test debut in the series opener, replacing Will Young who had a stellar performance in India.
England has made some key changes to their lineup, with Jacob Bethell set to make his Test debut at number three. Bethell, who averages 25.44 in first-class cricket, replaces wicketkeeper Jordan Cox who is out with a broken thumb. Regular number three Ollie Pope will take the gloves and drop down to bat at six, while captain Ben Stokes will bat at seven.
The series holds significant importance for both teams, with New Zealand aiming for a series sweep to secure a place in the World Test Championship final. Additionally, the series marks the final appearance of veteran New Zealand pace bowler Tim Southee, who is set to retire after the three-match series.
The first Test will be played at Hagley Oval in Christchurch from November 28 to December 2, followed by the second Test in Wellington from December 6 to 10, and the third Test in Hamilton from December 14 to 18.
