Olympic Legends Shine As Commentators At Paris 2024 Beach Volleyball

In an exciting twist at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, fans are getting a double treat with some legendary Olympic champions serving as commentators. Misty May-Treanor, Kerri Pottharst, Jonas Reckermann, and Dain Blanton are all back in the spotlight, but this time they’re sharing their insights behind the microphone instead of competing on the sand.

Misty May, with a whopping three gold medals under her belt, is now providing expert commentary for NBC. The 47-year-old former athlete expressed her joy, saying, “Because I love the sport of beach volleyball so much, it’s fun for me and entertaining to come watch these athletes.” She’s enjoying watching the action unfold, especially from such a stunning venue.

Speaking of the venue, Misty shared her thoughts on the Eiffel Tower Stadium, admitting she felt a twinge of jealousy. “I was like, can I just rewind the clock about 20 years?” she laughed, remembering her own Olympic days. The iconic backdrop of the Eiffel Tower has made this year’s event even more special for the former players.

Dain Blanton, who won gold at the Sydney 2000 Games, is also in the mix, conducting live interviews right after matches. He’s enjoying every moment of his role and appreciates watching the competition from a different perspective.

Meanwhile, Kerri Pottharst, another Olympian who made history in the 1996 Atlanta Games, is working as a commentator for Australia’s Channel 9. At 59 years old, she’s loving her experience at the Paris venue, declaring it “probably the best venue that we’ve ever had.” Kerri is thrilled to see an increase in the number of Australian teams participating this year.

Jonas Reckermann, who made history as Europe’s first Olympic beach volleyball champion in 2012, is also sharing his expertise as a commentator for ZDF. At 45, he’s been experiencing the thrill of being part of the Olympics once again, feeling that this year’s event offers something extra special.

With the Eiffel Tower lending its charm and a full atmosphere of excitement, these former champions are not just reminiscing about their glory days; they’re now giving back to the sport they love by sharing their passion and insights with fans around the world.
