Ontario 2023 Sunshine List Reveals Top Earners Over $100,000

The Ontario 2023 Sunshine List has been unveiled by the province, showcasing top earners with salaries surpassing $100,000. Notably, the list features five executives from Ontario Power Generation among the top 10 earners, led by Kenneth Hartwick, who secured the highest salary of $1.93 million.

Caroline Mulroney, the president of the Treasury Board, highlighted significant growth areas that contributed to the list’s expansion, including hospitals, municipalities, and post-secondary sectors. Among the top earners were executives from the Hospital for Sick Children, University Health Network, Metrolinx, and Ontario Health.

Premier Doug Ford‘s salary for the year stood at $208,974, with his chief of staff, Patrick Sackville, earning $324,675. Matthew Anderson, the CEO of Ontario Health, also made the list, alongside Deputy Minister Catherine Zahn and Health Minister Sylvia Jones.

Chief Justice Sharon Nicklas, who assumed the top role in the province’s judiciary last year, earned $388,960. The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, which was introduced by former Premier Mike Harris in 1996, mandates organizations receiving public funding to reveal employees earning over $100,000.

The 2023 Sunshine List highlighted the salaries and benefits of the top 100 earners, showcasing key figures from various sectors in Ontario. The list continues to serve as a tool for transparency in public sector remuneration.
