Orioles Reunite with Andrew Kittredge in Trade with Cubs
BALTIMORE, MD (WBFF) — The Baltimore Orioles announced on Tuesday that they have re-acquired reliever Andrew Kittredge from the Chicago Cubs. The deal, made for cash considerations, marks Kittredge’s return after the Orioles traded him away at the 2025 MLB Trade Deadline.
Kittredge, 35, initially began the 2025 season with Baltimore, where he pitched in 31 games with a 3.45 earned run average (ERA). After his mid-season trade to the Cubs, he made an additional 23 appearances and posted a 3.32 ERA. Overall, Kittredge pitched in 54 games last season, striking out 64 batters over 53 innings and finishing with a combined 3.40 ERA between both teams.
The Orioles are expected to exercise Kittredge’s $9 million option for the 2026 season, providing them with a solid veteran arm for their bullpen. He is likely to fill a critical role, especially while teammate Félix Bautista recovers from shoulder surgery.
General Manager Mike Elias indicated that this trade is just one of many expected this offseason as the team aims to improve after a disappointing finish to the 2025 season. Elias noted the need for several key additions to bolster their roster.
During the 2025 season, Kittredge proved to be an effective reliever, especially in high-leverage situations. He had a strikeout rate of 30.8% and an expected ERA of 2.75, ranking him among the top pitchers in the league for those metrics.
The Cubs, having traded Kittredge, face new challenges in their bullpen as they move forward. His performance in the playoffs and during the regular season highlighted his importance to the Cubs, making his departure a significant change for the team.
