Pelicans Dominate Wizards in Wire-to-Wire Victory
The New Orleans Pelicans delivered a commanding performance Sunday evening, defeating the Washington Wizards 110-98 in a game where they never trailed. The Pelicans, who also beat the Wizards on Friday, solidified their dominance in this weekend’s back-to-back matchups.
The Wizards, playing at home, came out flat and allowed the Pelicans to set the tone early. New Orleans led 33-22 after the first quarter and extended their advantage to 60-45 by halftime. Despite a more even third quarter, the Pelicans maintained control, entering the final period with an 84-70 lead. The fourth quarter was a formality, with Pelicans broadcaster Joel Meyers even joking about implementing a running clock.
CJ McCollum, who scored 50 points in Friday’s game, contributed 25 points Sunday, while Trey Murphy III added 22. Herb Jones and rookie Yves Missi anchored the defense, combining for five blocks. Missi also chipped in 16 points, showcasing his growing impact.
For the Wizards, Kyle Kuzma led the way with 28 points on 13-of-23 shooting, including 2-of-5 from three-point range. Alex Sarr added 18 points, but Corey Kispert struggled off the bench, going 0-for-6 from beyond the arc. Bub Carrington provided a bright spot with 16 points, hitting 4-of-7 from deep.
With the loss, the Wizards now hold the NBA’s worst record. They will look to rebound Tuesday when they host the Houston Rockets.
