Plymouth Argyle and Leeds United Battle for FA Cup Fifth Round Spot
Plymouth Argyle is set to compete against Leeds United in the FA Cup fourth-round replay as they both vie for a spot in the last 16. The Pilgrims held Daniel Farke‘s Leeds United to a 1-1 draw in their previous encounter at Elland Road, with goals from Jaidon Anthony and Adam Randell.
The replay will be televised on BBC One and promises to be a thrilling match. Both teams will receive a broadcast fee of £55,000, while the winning side will earn £120,000 in prize money and secure a fifth-round tie against either Chelsea or Aston Villa.
Plymouth Argyle last reached the FA Cup fifth round in the 2006/07 season when they triumphed over Peterborough United and Barnet before defeating Derby County 2-0 at Home Park. The Pilgrims were eventually eliminated by Premier League outfit Watford in the quarter-finals.
The match will take place at Home Park, with Plymouth Argyle playing towards the Barn Park End in the first half. The atmosphere promises to be electric under the floodlights, despite the heavy rain and windy conditions forecasted for the evening.
The Plymouth Argyle starting lineup will feature Callum Wright, Ryan Hardie, Bali Mumba, Matty Sorinola, Joe Edwards, and Conor Hazard, among others. Meanwhile, Leeds United will have the likes of Illan Meslier, Liam Cooper, Junior Firpo, Wilfried Gnonto, and Mateo Joseph in their first XI.
Referee Robert Jones, who is usually in charge of Premier League matches, will officiate the game. He has shown 107 yellow cards and issued four red cards this season.
With a live broadcast on BBC One, both teams will receive a £55,000 fee. The winning side will secure not only a significant cash prize but also a lucrative fifth-round tie against either Chelsea or Aston Villa.
Plymouth Argyle manager Daniel Farke expressed his admiration for Leeds, acknowledging their strong performances this season. However, he remains confident in his team’s ability to implement their game plan. The players are in high spirits and eagerly anticipating the match, building on the excitement from their draw at Elland Road.
Leeds United will have some key absentees due to injury and illness, including Pascal Struijk, Dan James, Karl Darlow, Stuart Dallas, and Jamie Shackleton. In contrast, Plymouth Argyle will be without several players, such as Mustapha Bundu, Mike Cooper, Jordan Houghton, and Darko Gyabi.
