Pope Francis Discusses Catholic Church’s Contribution to Guinea Bissau with President Umaro Sissoco Embaló
Pope Francis had a meeting with President Umaro Sissoco Embaló of Guinea Bissau at the Vatican on Monday. The high-level discussions between Pope Francis and President Embaló were described as cordial, aimed at reinforcing the good relations between the Vatican and Guinea Bissau.
The discussions focused on the social situation in Guinea Bissau, with particular emphasis on the Catholic Church’s contribution to the common good, specifically in the fields of education and health. The President also met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State, and Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the Vatican Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations.
At the end of the audience, Pope Francis presented President Embaló with various gifts, including a bronze sculpture, volumes of papal documents, and his prayers for the country’s well-being.
