Nor'easter Storm East Coast October 2025

NEWARK, New Jersey—A powerful nor’easter is forecasted to bring severe weather to millions along the East Coast, starting Friday afternoon and continuing through Tuesday. The storm will produce strong winds, heavy rain, and dangerous seas, leading to coastal flooding and beach erosion.

The nor’easter is expected to develop offshore along a stalled front near the Southeast coast on Saturday, affecting areas from the Carolinas to New England. This storm, which typically brings snow in winter, can also result in heavy rain during autumn.

Acting New Jersey Governor Tahesha Way announced that a state of emergency will take effect Saturday night in anticipation of the storm’s impacts. She urged residents to exercise caution, stay informed on weather updates, and avoid unnecessary travel.

As the storm approaches, parts of North Carolina could see up to six inches of rain and winds reaching 50 mph, contributing to ongoing beach erosion in the Outer Banks. Since September 30, at least nine unoccupied homes have collapsed into the Atlantic due to severe erosion.

Rain is expected to spread to the mid-Atlantic and southern New England, with strong winds and flash flooding possible. Coastal areas may experience gusts of up to 60 mph, particularly in New Jersey and southern New England. Power outages may occur as winds batter coastal regions for several days.

The National Weather Service predicts significant coastal flooding, especially in southern New Jersey, with water levels potentially exceeding eight feet in Atlantic City. Such levels could lead to extensive road flooding and isolated neighborhoods.

As the storm moves away, the East Coast could see a brief reprieve from adverse weather, followed by another wave of unseasonable warmth expected by late next week.
