Rangers Expect Less Stylish Performance against St Mirren Under Difficult Circumstances
Rangers manager Philippe Clement has acknowledged that the team’s performance against St Mirren on Saturday may be less flashy due to challenging conditions. Clement pointed out the strong winds and the poor quality pitch as factors that could impact their usual style of play. To secure victory in Paisley, Clement emphasized the need for adaptability and a focus on grinding out the win rather than showcasing a glamorous performance.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Clement said, ‘We are here with one mission and that is to get three points but it will be less sexy than in other occasions. It’s a difficult game in difficult circumstances with a lot of wind and not the best of pitches to play good football, so we need to adapt in that way.’
The Ibrox boss acknowledged that different challenges exist in the Scottish Premiership but reiterated his primary goal of winning games regardless of the playing style and external factors. Clement stated, ‘I just enjoy playing games and winning. I don’t care about styles of other teams or circumstances or whatever. We only have one thought and that is to win games, and the nice thing is that challenges are different things, but it is in every competition, not just Scotland.’
Meanwhile, Clement has also highlighted the importance for Rangers to adopt a sustainable transfer model by selling players for profit. He emphasized that this approach is necessary to survive as a club and keep up with the evolving landscape of European football. Clement mentioned that a longer-term investment strategy is employed to assess players’ current and future value, aligning with the club’s growth and development as a whole.
Clement further commented, ‘It’s crucial to have a sustainable model because you cannot survive as a club in Europe, where things are evolving, if you don’t have that model. You need to get players in and after a period of time sell them for profit. We are not a club like that so we need to have a transfer model to grow. If you don’t grow, you go backward because there are other teams that are growing in Europe and in the league also. So you need this model, it’s really clear.’
