Red Sox Set to Make Roster Moves Before Atlanta Matchup

BOSTON, Mass. — The Boston Red Sox are preparing to select the contract of infielder/outfielder Nate Eaton ahead of their game against the Atlanta Braves tomorrow, according to reports.
The club is also expected to recall right-hander from the minors for this matchup. Both the 40-man and active rosters are currently at capacity, meaning that the team will need to make additional corresponding roster moves to complete these transactions before the game.
Eaton, 28, debuted in Major League Baseball with the Kansas City Royals in 2022, posting decent numbers in 44 games with a .264/.331/.387 slash line across 122 plate appearances. However, his performance declined significantly in 2023, where he struggled with a .075/.125/.075 slash line in 56 at-bats, leading to a temporary end to his big league career.
Last season, Eaton spent the entire year at Triple-A Omaha with the Royals but never received a call-up to the majors. He signed a minor league deal with the Red Sox this past offseason and has been performing relatively well this year, hitting .277/.364/.446 with a 117 wRC+ in 225 plate appearances for Triple-A Worcester.
The impending roster moves come as the Red Sox find themselves in a tough position in the standings. Fans have expressed their frustrations over the team’s struggles and the recent small-scale transactions, indicating a demand for significant improvements in the roster.
