John Blackman, the beloved voiceover man and comedic genius behind the iconic Hey Hey It’s Saturday show, has left a lasting legacy following his passing at the age of 76.

Widely known for his role as Dickie Knee, a character that brought laughter and surprise to viewers, Blackman’s quick wit and humor made him a household name across Australia during the show’s peak in the late 70s through the 90s.

His career kicked off in radio where he honed his skills before transitioning to television, becoming an integral part of the Nine Network’s programming and entertaining audiences of all ages.

Starting at 2GN in Goulburn and later joining 3AW, Blackman’s distinctive voice and comedic timing set him apart, providing entertainment that transcended generations.

His health battles, including a skin cancer diagnosis in 2019 and subsequent surgeries, did not dim his remarkable talent, as he continued to bring joy to fans through his unique characters and humor.

Host Daryl Somers, who shared a special bond with Blackman on and off the screen, expressed deep sadness at the loss of his dear friend and commended his ability to bring laughter to even the toughest of days.
