ATLANTA, United States — Rodri, the reigning Ballon d’Or winner, made a triumphant return to the pitch as Manchester City overpowered Al Ain 6-0 in their FIFA Club World Cup match. The encounter not only marked Rodri’s comeback from a long injury layoff but also showcased City’s dominance on the field.

Before the match, Rodri practiced with determination, showing he was ready to assist his team. After nine months of recovery from a serious knee injury, he took the field not only to play, but to send a message of resilience. “I feel very strong, to be honest,” Rodri said, showcasing his confidence ahead of the crucial match against Juventus.

City’s coach, Pep Guardiola, expressed his joy over Rodri’s return. “He’s improving and is eager to help the team, although we want to protect his knee,” Guardiola noted. Rodri’s absence last season significantly affected the team’s performance, but his return brings hope for a successful campaign.

In the match against Al Ain, City quickly established their dominance. İlkay Gündoğan scored the first goal in the 8th minute, followed by a stunning free-kick from new signing Claudio Echeverri in the 27th minute. Haaland secured a penalty just before halftime, making it 3-0.

The second half saw City maintain control, scoring three more goals — including Rodri’s first since his return in the 84th minute. This victory secured City’s spot in the next round against Juventus, where the winner will lead Group G.

Defender Nathan Aké emphasized Rodri’s importance to the team: “He’s a key player for us, on and off the field. He helps keep us united and brings a lot of experience to the game.” With a strong start in the Club World Cup, Manchester City is showing they are serious contenders for the title.
