Sabrina Carpenter Alice In Wonderland Musical

LOS ANGELES, CA — Pop superstar Sabrina Carpenter is set to star in and produce a new musical film inspired by Lewis Carroll‘s classic tale, “Alice in Wonderland.” The project will be developed by Universal Pictures and marks Carpenter’s first major studio role.

Lorene Scafaria, known for her work on the acclaimed film “Hustlers,” is on board as the writer and director for the untitled musical. Producer Marc Platt, recognized for his contributions to Broadway hits like “Wicked,” will also be producing alongside Alloy Entertainment’s Leslie Morgenstein and Elysa Koplovitz Dutton.

This new take on the beloved story centers on Alice, a girl who falls down a rabbit hole into a fantastical land filled with whimsical creatures. While details about the plot remain tightly under wraps, sources suggest that Carpenter approached the studio with the concept over a year ago, driven by her passion for the material.

Scafaria has a formidable reputation, having previously directed various episodes of HBO’s “Succession” and the pilot for “I Love L.A.,” in addition to being an executive producer on that show. She famously directed “Hustlers,” which was a critical success and grossed over $100 million at the North American box office.

Carpenter’s involvement in the film comes shortly after she received six Grammy nominations for her album, “Man’s Best Friend.” This includes major nods for Album of the Year and Record of the Year, solidifying her status in the music industry.

Previously known for her roles in projects such as “Girl Meets World” and the film “The Hate U Give,” Carpenter has taken a largely musical focus in recent years but expressed a desire to return to acting. “Getting back to acting was always a goal,” she stated in a past interview.

As Universal prepares for this new project, the studio is also managing the production through its senior vice president, Ryan Jones, and director of production development, Jacqueline Garell. Katie McNicol is overseeing the project for Marc Platt Productions.

Carpenter is currently represented by Foundation Media Partners, Volara Management, and Paradigm Talent Agency. Scafaria is represented by UTA and Dern Weber. More updates about the production’s progress will be available in the future.
