Salt Lake City Named Seventh Best Summer Travel Destination in 2025

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — WalletHub has released its ranking of the best summer travel destinations for 2025, with Salt Lake City making the list at seventh place.
The report, published on May 13, indicates that nearly 82% of Americans plan to travel this summer, with 42% expected to take more than one trip. For travelers still deciding on a destination, this list aims to provide budget-friendly options.
WalletHub analyzed 100 U.S. metro areas based on 41 key metrics that evaluate budget and fun-friendliness. Among the factors considered were the cost of flights, local dining costs, and the number of attractions available.
“When planning a summer trip, it’s essential to find a spot that balances entertainment and affordability, especially given rising travel costs,” said analyst Chip Lupo.
Orlando, Florida, topped the list as the most desirable summer destination, followed closely by Atlanta, Georgia, and Washington, D.C. The full top 20 includes:
1. Orlando, Florida
2. Atlanta, Georgia
3. Washington, D.C.
4. Honolulu, Hawaii
5. Austin, Texas
6. Cincinnati, Ohio
7. Salt Lake City, Utah

Both Florida and Texas had three cities each in the top ranks, showing strong travel appeal in those states. Salt Lake City’s appeal is attributed to its beautiful landscapes and range of outdoor activities.
The WalletHub study evaluated cities across six categories: travel costs and hassles, local costs, attractions, weather, activities, and safety. This comprehensive analysis aims to assist travelers in making informed decisions while planning trips.
“Choosing an affordable destination can lead to a more enjoyable and extended vacation,” Lupo added.
As summer approaches, many Americans are expected to hit the road, making travel alternatives essential. With progressive options that combine affordability and enjoyment, this year’s summer travel season appears promising.
