ATLANTA, GA — Oscar-nominated actor Samuel L. Jackson is set to lead a spinoff series titled “NOLA King” from the hit show “Tulsa King,” sources confirmed to Deadline. The new series, written by Dave Erickson, is expected to explore Jackson’s character, Russell Lee Washington Jr., a crime boss comparable to Sylvester Stallone’s character, Dwight ‘The General’ Manfredi.

Jackson will make multiple appearances in the upcoming third season of “Tulsa King,” which has been filming in Atlanta and Oklahoma for the past couple of months. Production on his episodes is scheduled for July, while filming for “NOLA King” is anticipated to start in February.

Jackson’s role as Washington is said to involve conflict with Stallone’s Dwight before heading to New Orleans. This narrative aligns with Taylor Sheridan‘s vision to expand the “Tulsa King” world, similar to how “Yellowstone” has birthed multiple offshoots, according to sources.

Executive producers for “NOLA King” include Sheridan and David C. Glasser from 101 Studios. Erickson, currently the showrunner for both “Tulsa King” and “Mayor of Kingstown,” will also take the helm for the new series.

“Tulsa King” follows the story of New York mafia capo Dwight Manfredi after he is released from prison and sent to Tulsa, Oklahoma, by his boss. In this unfamiliar environment, Dwight assembles a crew from unlikely characters to establish a new criminal empire. The show has gained substantial viewership, with Season 2 reportedly setting a record for Paramount+ with 21.1 million global streaming views.

Jackson is known for his extensive work within the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Nick Fury and his role in the acclaimed film “Pulp Fiction,” for which he received an Honorary Oscar in 2021. He joins a roster of stars in Sheridan’s universe, including Kevin Costner and Jeremy Renner.

At this time, representatives for MTV Entertainment Studios have declined to comment further on the project.
