Sassuolo‘s Serie A survival hopes took a hit as they surrendered a two-goal lead in stoppage time against Salernitana, resulting in a thrilling 2-2 draw on Friday.

The match started with Sassuolo, second from the bottom in the league, taking a commanding lead courtesy of standout performances by Nedim Bajrami.

Armand Laurienté capitalized on Bajrami’s pass to open the scoring at the 37th-minute mark, with Bajrami himself doubling the lead just before halftime.

Salernitana clawed their way back into the game when Antonio Candreva converted a penalty in the 57th minute, setting up an intense finale.

Just when it seemed Sassuolo would secure the much-needed victory to climb out of the relegation zone, Giulio Maggiore‘s late goal in added time leveled the score, leaving both teams with a point.

The draw leaves Salernitana rooted to the bottom of the Serie A table, trailing Sassuolo by ten points with only seven games remaining in the season.

With 25 points to their name, Sassuolo finds themselves level with Frosinone and Empoli, who each have a match in hand and are also battling against the drop.

Upcoming fixtures for the relegation-threatened clubs include Empoli facing Torino, while Frosinone takes on Bologna in a critical clash.

As the Serie A season enters its final stretch, the battle for survival intensifies among the bottom-ranked teams, with every point crucial in the fight against relegation.
