Selena Gomez Reunites with Wizards of Waverly Place Family for Upcoming Spinoff

Selena Gomez, the beloved actress and singer, recently reunited with several of her Wizards of Waverly Place costars, sparking excitement among fans of the hit Disney series. David Henrie and David DeLuise, who portrayed Alex Russo’s brother Justin and dad Jerry respectively, shared a heartwarming photo on social media. They were joined by fellow former cast member Maria Canals Barrera, who played the kids’ mom Theresa.

The Russo family reunion was a delightful surprise for fans, especially considering the news that an upcoming spinoff of the show is in the works. David DeLuise’s caption on his Instagram post read, ‘The Russos…coming back #wizardsofwaverlyplace’, referring to the podcast ‘The Wizards Pod’ that he co-hosts with Jennifer Stone, who played Alex’s best friend Harper Finkle and became a registered nurse during the challenging year of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Shortly after the reunion photo was shared, E! News confirmed that Selena Gomez and David Henrie will serve as executive producers for the spinoff. Henrie, who is also set to reprise his role as Justin Russo, will be a regular cast member while Gomez will make a special guest appearance as Alex Russo in the pilot episode.

The yet-to-be-titled spinoff follows Justin as he navigates a normal non-magical life with his wife, played by Mimi Gianopulos, and their two sons portrayed by Alkaio Thiele and Max Matenko. Janice LeAnn Brown will portray a young wizard named Billie, the series’ lead, who seeks guidance from Justin.

It is heartening to see the Russo family coming back together, as evidenced by the Instagram pictures shared by both Henrie and Gomez. Henrie’s caption on his photo read, ‘The Russo’s have grown ;)’. David DeLuise also joined in the excitement, commenting, ‘@selenagomez @davidhenrie I feel too young to have grandkids. I’m looking forward to seeing you guys and meeting them tomorrow.’

The young cast members of the spinoff, Alkaio Thiele and Max Matenko, couldn’t contain their joy either, as they posted a picture with Gomez and Henrie expressing their eagerness to ‘make some TV magic’ with their onscreen dad and Auntie Alex.
