Severe Storms Expected in Columbus, Georgia Overnight

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – Columbus residents should prepare for severe storms overnight as a weather system approaches the Chattahoochee Valley. The National Weather Service has declared an ALERT Day for this evening, predicting the potential for strong to severe weather from 3 AM to 8 AM ET.
Afternoon temperatures today ranged from the upper-50s to low-70s, but as night falls, the region will experience gusty winds and an increased likelihood of precipitation. Meteorologists have warned that the main threats include damaging wind gusts and an isolated tornado risk.
The winds are expected to pick up significantly, with gusts projected between 30-40 mph. Residents are advised to take precautions by ensuring they have multiple ways to receive updates and alerts regarding weather warnings.
Despite the stormy forecast, Sunday is not expected to be a complete washout. The rain and storms will clear the Valley by lunchtime, giving way to sunny skies for the afternoon. Temperatures will cool throughout the day, with highs reaching the mid-50s.
Looking ahead to the start of the workweek, Monday promises dry conditions, with morning temperatures expected in the upper-20s to low-30s. The week will continue with another expected round of rain by Wednesday, followed by cooler, drier conditions.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and stay informed as the weather system moves in.
