BALTIMORE, Md. — Maryland residents are experiencing snowy conditions on Wednesday morning, following a night of accumulation that has left 2 to 5 inches of snow in the Baltimore area. Meteorologist Ava Marie predicts that light flurries will continue into the early morning before transitioning to rain by evening.
According to Marie, temperatures will only reach the mid-30s during the day, hovering below freezing in many areas. Western Maryland, particularly places like Frederick and Carroll County, will see some light snow this morning, but significant accumulation is not expected. “Most of what fell overnight has already settled, and as the temperatures rise, any additional snow accumulation will be minimal,” she stated.
The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for Anne Arundel and Howard counties, along with parts of Southern Maryland and the Eastern Shore, where snow accumulation was expected to be heavier—between 3 and 5 inches—compared to the Baltimore metro area. Residents have been advised to exercise caution on the roads due to icy spots, especially where snow has not been salted.
Radar images as of Wednesday morning indicated that flurries were still lingering across southern Maryland, particularly in Saint Mary's County, with occasional mixes. As rain is predicted to develop by late afternoon, temperatures are expected to rise slightly above freezing, which should help mitigate icing conditions. The evening forecast calls for rain showers intensifying after 5 p.m., with potential ice pellets in the northern and western regions.
Marie emphasized the need for caution while navigating on the slick roads. “Even areas that have been cleared may still present variable conditions due to the slick surfaces from the morning snow,” she noted.
Looking ahead, temperatures on Thursday are forecasted to climb into the upper 40s with further rain expected. Across the weekend, showers will continue, with another cold snap likely bringing highs back down into the low 30s to start next week.
With Valentine’s Day on Friday, residents can anticipate a brisk and sunny day, but will need to prepare for a cloudy and damp weekend. Rain accumulation throughout the weekend could further complicate conditions on already saturated grounds.
