Southern Alberta Braces for Multi-Day Snowfall Event as Snowfall Warning Issued
Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the southern half of Alberta, including areas like Nordegg, Rocky Mountain House, and Calgary. The warning predicts a multi-day snowfall event lasting from Tuesday night until Friday, with amounts ranging between 10-30 cm.
Calgary’s City snow crews, led by Chris Hewitt, are preparing for significant snowfall, expecting up to 40 cm by Friday evening. They have called in additional crews and equipment to tackle the storm efficiently.
Drivers are advised to adjust their travel plans and be cautious of rapidly changing road conditions. Calgary Transit has announced snow route detours in anticipation of the heavy snowfall.
In a related development, the Airdrie-Cochrane-Olds-Sundre area is now included in the snowfall warning initially issued for Red Deer-Ponoka-Innisfail-Stettler region, as per Environment Canada’s updated reports.
Surfaces like roads, highways, and walkways are expected to become treacherous due to the accumulating snow. RCMP alerts of potentially hazardous road conditions, especially along Highway 2 between Airdrie and Innisfail.
This weather situation follows a recent special weather statement by Environment and Climate Change Canada, signalling a sharp drop in temperatures and heavy snowfall for the region.
